The Top 5 STEM TikTok Accounts: Igniting Curiosity One Swipe at a Time

TikTok continues to be a social sensation for users with its user-friendly interface, algorithmic feeds, and creative short-form videos. When swiping through the app, it’s easy to see that there is something for quite literally everyone! No matter your background, interest, or lifestyle, you’re bound to find a profile you can relate to for connection, entertainment, or a great laugh. TikTok is also a booming platform for learning- and STEM is a big part of that! Here are some of the most influential STEM content creators on TikTok today! 

1. @AstroSamantha

As an astronaut with the European Space Agency, Samantha Cristoforetti is the first TikTok creator in space to share her mission with viewers and educate them about all things space exploration. As you dive into Cristoforetti’s account, you’ll soon be engaged in her journey and see various aspects of an astronaut’s life in space, such as the food they eat, how the restroom operates, and techniques space explorers use to stay strong and build muscle while experiencing zero gravity for long durations. 

2. @AnneliseTheArchaeologist 

Known as the “friendly neighborhood archaeologist” on TikTok, Annelise Baer is a producer and archaeologist. Baer has used her master’s degree in Archaeology for Screen Media to create educational content about history, specifically with her archaeology-themed series. In addition to exploring archaeological history, Baer also covers recent discoveries, debunks common myths, and demonstrates archaeology in the modern world. 

3. @ChemTeacherPhil

Philip Cook works at Culver Academy as a high school chemistry teacher. Cook takes to TikTok to teach STEM with his large following. With his fame bringing him to The Kelly Clarkson Show, Cook continues to engage his TikTok community with videos covering various science experiments and how-tos that are easy to follow and exciting to watch, such as how to dye hair or why gel nail polish works. Cook also shares the powerful role of chemistry in finding sustainable solutions.

4. @NaturalHistoryMuseum  

The American Museum of Natural History in New York City has a large following that continues to expand on TikTok. By sparking interest in museum curation and natural science, the account grows the love for STEM education on social media. In addition to sharing trivia about modern animals, the page also covers topics of ancient creatures like Edmontonias and the Megladon. The account also explores the museum’s history, lessons by curators, and additional resources that will help fellow educators teach STEM successfully.

Content creator Andre Isaacs, also known as Dr. Dre on TikTok, is the Associate Professor of Chemistry at the College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts. With his spirited videos featuring his many students in the classroom, Isaacs embraces humor to make his STEM content engaging and educational for his following. Featured as one of TikTok’s 2023 LGBTQ+ Visionary Voices, Isaacs continues to make new headways with his content creation. The account features topics such as how to nurture the next generation of STEM workers, the challenges young students face, and how chemistry is more important than people may realize.
