The Missing DLL File: Decision Options

Most often, this error occurs when running games and applications. In such a situation, most users follow the recommendations of the notice and reinstall the app on the laptop or PC. Nevertheless, this does not always help. Detailed instructions can be found at Techloris.com

In this article, let’s look at what leads to the bug, and whether or not you need api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll download while fixing the problem. As it can be understood from the bug itself, it arises because of issues with a DLL file. The point is that the error appears in those situations when a user tries to run a program that was developed specifically for Windows 10, on a Windows 7 or 8 OS. That means that the developers used the universal environment functions intended for Windows 10 in the process of creating their app.

Note: Often, an error with the missing DLL file occurs when trying to launch quite popular programs, such as Skype, Adobe, Microsoft Office and others. But this applies only to the latest versions of applications.

How To Fix The Error

After the appearance of mass complaints about the bug, Microsoft independently released a “patch” that corrects the situation. This patch has the name “KB2999226”. It places the necessary tools for working with programs that were created using the toolkit Windows 10, in the problematic versions of Windows (7, 8 and older).

To fix the bug with the DLL download file, you must install the update KB2999226, which you can get on the official Microsoft website. There were cases when the user previously installed the KB2999226 update, but still, there is the bug. In this case, it is advised to reinstall Visual C++versions 2015 and 2017 on your computer.

What is the Alternative?

If a simple installation of Visual C++ libraries does not help, you can do the following:

1: Delete the existing Visual C++ elements from the PC. To do this, go to the “Control Panel” and select the appropriate item in the drop-down menu;

2: Then open the “Programs and Features” utility;

3: Sort the displayed list of programs and apps available on your device by name and scroll it to the letter “M”;

4: Delete all installed components of Microsoft Visual C++ 2015;

5: Then go to the official Microsoft website and download the necessary elements of Visual C++

Important: you need to install on the device required versions of the components of both sizes, that is, x64 and x86.

Following that, start the downloaded files and install them, this will require administrator rights. After that, you will have to reboot the device and ensure all necessary components are installed. Then check that the error with the DLL file is resolved.

Note: if the problem persists after all the above actions have been performed, try to remove everything related to Visual C 2017 from the program list. Next, download the corresponding elements of 2017 from the Microsoft website and install them. Then, reboot the device and try to rerun the game or program.
