Review: The DTV Electric Shredder—A Revolutionary Ride on Land and Snow

The world of off-road transportation has seen its fair share of bold, innovative designs, but few have garnered as much attention as the DTV Shredder. Short for “Dual Tracked Vehicle,” the DTV Shredder is an electric-powered, all-terrain vehicle that combines the thrill of a skateboard with the ruggedness of a snowmobile/tank. With its unique design and impressive capabilities, it promises a truly revolutionary ride, offering the speed and excitement of off-road machines while pushing the boundaries of electric vehicles (EVs).

We put the DTV Shredder to the test in a range of conditions to see if it truly lives up to its claims of being a versatile, powerful, and thrilling ride. From dirt trails to snow-covered hills, we tested its performance, comfort, handling, and durability. It is a game changer.

The Shredder has disrupted off-road power sports because it doesn’t matter what the weather is—you can hop on, take off, and get your fill of heart-pumping, adrenaline-filled fun.

Design and Build Quality

At first glance, the DTV Shredder appears to be a hybrid between a skateboard and a tank. It features a pair of continuous rubber treads, similar to those found on military vehicles, allowing it to navigate over various types of terrain with ease.

The body is sleek and low-profile, with an industrial, rugged aesthetic that hints at its durable construction. The vehicle weighs around 250 pounds and measures approximately 43 inches long, 27 inches wide, and 57 inches tall when unfolded, making it compact yet sturdy enough for a variety of activities. The handlebars fold down, making it compact enough to fit easily into the back of a minivan.

Note—These things are heavy, and lifting one of these bad boys into a minivan is no easy task. A ramp quickly solves that problem.

The DTV Shredder’s frame is constructed from heavy-duty aluminum, providing a strong, durable feel without adding excessive weight. The treads, while robust, are relatively easy to maintain and replace, which is essential for a vehicle designed to take on rough, uneven ground. Despite its rugged appearance, the design has been carefully engineered to offer both stability and agility, ensuring that riders can maneuver it with confidence.

The Shredder’s controller is intuitive, featuring a simple throttle and brake system, similar to a dirt bike. Riders use their body position to shift weight for turns, while the thumb throttle provides full control over acceleration. A pair of foot platforms allows riders to secure their feet comfortably during the ride, adding to the overall stability.

It’s weird at first—the go-to move is to try and use the handlebar to steer, which causes you to run into a small tree (or at least me)—but once you get the balance/steering down, it’s super responsive and keeps you away from small trees.

Performance: Off-Road Power

The app is the key to this. Plenty of products come with apps that don’t do much. This app is well thought out and helps you pick the type of terrain you want to tackle.

Snow, mud, sand, beginner, expert mode, etc.—with the touch of a button, the Shredder responds and customizes your ride to the terrain. It’s not intimidating at all, and starting in Beginner Mode helps you get the feel for the Shredder and keeps you from running into a small tree.

Once you have the app dialed in, when it comes to off-road performance, the DTV Shredder excels in a variety of conditions, thanks to its advanced electric drive system and innovative treads. Powered by 20Kw dual motors, 100Ah battery cells, with a 400A max discharge, it can reach speeds of up to 30 miles per hour—fast enough to get the adrenaline pumping, but not too fast to lose control. The motor provides enough torque to handle inclines of up to 30 degrees, which means it can climb moderate hills with ease.

The continuous rubber treads are the secret to its versatility. Unlike traditional wheels or tires, these treads offer superior traction on everything from dirt trails to gravel roads, sand, shallow water (like big puddles), and even snow. Whether you’re zooming across sandy dunes or carving through a snowy hillside, the DTV Shredder handles it all with confidence.

Living outside of Chicago and not getting much snow this year, we used the Shredder to re-imagine sledding. Instead of trudging up and down a hill while 1,000 other families tried the same thing, quickly turning the hill into slippery mud, we attached a rope to the hitch, found an open field, grabbed a sled, and pulled that sucker all over the place, twisting and turning through the soft powder with no one else in sight… well, until the police showed up. But after a brief explanation that this was basically an electric scooter, they bailed and left us to the fun. Sledding reimagined… Check!

For another test ride, we took the DTV Shredder through a variety of terrains, starting with a dirt trail where I “met” the tree. The Shredder’s treads made quick work of uneven terrain, providing a smooth, comfortable ride. Even over rocky sections, the machine remained stable and responsive, with no significant jarring. The Shredder’s maneuverability also stood out—sharp turns and quick direction changes were executed with ease, thanks to the low center of gravity and balanced design. Quickly back to the tree thing, while the Shredder looks sleek and pretty, it is a mini-tank, with robust crash bars on the front. While I went flying off the Shredder into the tree (always wear a helmet), the Shredder was unscathed, waiting patiently for me to wipe up the blood, get off the ground, and go again. Oh, and it has a Tesla-like braking system, a fantastic addition. Take your hands off the throttle, and it stops. Fast.

On snow, the DTV Shredder was equally impressive. While traditional snowmobiles rely on skis and a large track to glide across snow, the Shredder’s treads provide excellent grip, allowing it to power through soft powder and icy terrain with minimal effort. Riders can tackle fresh snow, packed snow, and even icy patches without the risk of getting stuck. This makes the DTV Shredder a highly versatile option for those looking to enjoy winter sports without needing a full-fledged snowmobile.

However, while the DTV Shredder does an excellent job on soft and loose surfaces, its performance on hard-packed snow or concrete is somewhat limited. The lack of suspension means that riders can feel every bump and jolt on these harder surfaces. This issue is mitigated to an extent by the treads, but it’s something to consider if you’re planning to use it frequently on paved roads or compacted snow.

Battery Life and Charging

The DTV Shredder is powered by a lithium-ion battery, which is fully rechargeable. According to the manufacturer, the battery provides up to 120 minutes of continuous use on a single charge, depending on the terrain and riding style. During our tests, we found this claim to be accurate for most off-road conditions. On flat terrain, it was possible to get close to two hours of full-speed riding, but steep hills or rougher terrain would naturally reduce battery life. In the cold, that time dropped to about half, but an hour on the Shredder is a killer workout.

The charging process is straightforward. The DTV Shredder comes with a standard wall charger that takes about 4 to 5 hours to fully recharge the battery. While this might seem like a long wait, it’s worth noting that the vehicle’s battery is designed to last for many cycles, and the 120-minute ride time is sufficient for most recreational outings. It gives everyone a chance to take a long turn.

It’s also worth mentioning that the battery is designed to be durable. This is relatively standard for electric vehicles of this size, and considering the low maintenance required for the DTV Shredder, it makes for a cost-effective long-term investment.

Comfort and Handling

In terms of comfort, the DTV Shredder provides a decent riding experience, but it is far from a cushy ride. The absence of suspension means that riders will feel the bumps, jolts, and vibrations of the terrain directly through the foot platforms.

The handling, however, is where the DTV Shredder really shines. Thanks to its low center of gravity, the vehicle feels stable and planted on the ground, giving riders confidence when navigating tricky terrain. The ability to control the vehicle’s direction through body movement adds an extra level of precision to maneuvers, allowing riders to carve through tight turns or zip around obstacles with ease. It’s an epic ride, unlike anything I have ever experienced before. Unlike a scooter, on the Shredder, you feel secure from the get-go and not wobbly.

The DTV Shredder is also relatively easy to learn how to ride, making it accessible to both beginners and experienced riders alike. While experienced riders will appreciate the Shredder’s agility and speed, newcomers can pick it up quickly with a little practice.

Durability and Maintenance

One of the standout features of the DTV Shredder is its durability. Built with high-quality materials, including a reinforced frame and rugged treads, this vehicle can take a beating on tough terrain. We tested the Shredder on everything from gravel paths to snow-covered hills, and it held up remarkably well. The rubber treads show minimal wear, even after extended use, and the electric motor ran smoothly without any overheating or technical issues.

In terms of maintenance, the DTV Shredder is relatively low-maintenance, thanks to its simple design and lack of complex components. The rubber treads do require periodic inspection to ensure they remain in good condition, a little anti-freeze, and wiping it down like you would with any other ATV type machine, but other than that, the vehicle requires minimal attention. The lithium-ion battery is the most likely component to need replacement over time, but with proper care, it should last for many years.

Pricing and Value

At a retail price of approximately $9000, the DTV Shredder is certainly an investment, particularly when compared to more traditional off-road vehicles like ATVs or dirt bikes.

However, for those who are looking for a unique, electric-powered off-road experience, the price is reasonable considering the performance, durability, and sheer fun it offers. The DTV Shredder is priced competitively with other premium off-road EVs and provides a distinct advantage in terms of versatility—capable of tackling a wide variety of terrain with ease.

The DTV Shredder is a groundbreaking electric vehicle that offers a unique combination of speed, agility, and off-road performance. With its innovative dual treads, powerful electric motor, and ease of use, it is a thrilling ride for those who want to experience the great outdoors in a new way. Whether you’re carving through dirt trails, powering through sand dunes, or gliding over snow, the Shredder’s performance is impressive, providing riders with an unforgettable off-road experience.

For off-road enthusiasts, the Shredder represents a bold step forward in the world of electric vehicles, offering an exciting, eco-friendly alternative to traditional gas-powered machines. If you’re in the market for a vehicle that can handle virtually any terrain while delivering an adrenaline-packed experience, the DTV Shredder is an option worth considering.
