Microsoft is having a big weekend at E3 2016. As always, it’s Xbox against PlayStation for gamer glory. The winner between the technology competitors of Sony and Microsoft has yet to be determined, even with the huge company announcements from Microsoft.
During Microsoft’s E3 press conference the company had more than ample amounts of information to share with the press. Microsoft announced the release of the Xbox One S, or Xbox One Slim. The newly designed console is supposed to be “sleeker, slimmer, sharper” from the way that Microsoft has described its newly innovated hardware. The most interesting specs of the Xbox One S features include a 40% smaller console, a 2TB hard drive, 4k Ultra HD video, High Dynamic Range, and a streamlined controller. Like the original Xbox console, it was assumed that there would be a revision of the Xbox One hardware.
With months of talk on many rumor mills, Microsoft has officially announced that there is going to be a new and more powerful Xbox. The secret code name Project Scorpio is not a secret anymore. The new and improved version of the next generation Xbox is set to come out later in 2017. First, this means that Microsoft is looking to shorten the life span of their game consoles to four years — allowing gaming publishers to have more hyped up game releases with better technology for usage. The Xbox Scorpio will have 4k virtual reality gaming capabilities that allow game publishers to open a new dimension of gaming where no console has gone before. The Xbox Scorpio was based upon the complete culmination of what hardcore gamers want in a video game console. The technologies of Scorpio were made for developers that need an uncompromisable GPU. Gamers will see the most powerful game console of all time through Xbox Scorpio.
The only downside to these announcements was that Microsoft released this information on both consoles at the same time. It seems a little desperate when considering the rivalry of Xbox and Playstation. This announcement will turn away a number of potential buyers of the Xbox One S. After Microsoft’s E3 press conference, the company will lose millions in potential profits. As a consumer, you would be happy to have heard this information; you just have to decide if the Xbox One S is worth it or if it would be better to wait for the Xbox Scorpio. Hopefully this announcement was made to save Xbox users some money on the upcoming console releases that will soon be in stores.
