Social Media Algorithms Threaten Democracy?

A senate hearing this week is centered around the role social media algorithms that monitor content play in our society. Lawmakers voiced concerns that removing posts because of their content creates an attack on the first amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Lawmakers concluded such algorithms do have a value, but that ensuring the protection of expression is equally important.

Moderna Plans 3 Billion Covid-19 Vaccine Doses Next Year

Moderna sees the demand for Covid-19 vaccines and boosters increasing over the next two years. The pharmaceutical giant said this week it expects to produce three billion doses in 2022. Moderna executives also said they believe the need will continue through 2023.

The Electric Shock Treatment Ban is Only the Beginning

Just a week before Covid-19 became an outright crisis in the United States, the FDA issued a ban on a specific type of electric shock therapy. Despite the ban, the 55 patients using the device in the United States all remain under its treatment. A string of lawsuits and and appeals have slowed the process and could outright reverse the ban.

Study Finds Gossip May be Healthy After All

A recent study by Dartmouth College has determined there could be significant health benefits to gossip. The study suggested gossip can strengthen a person’s connection to society and their friends. They’re not suggesting we all run around and talk smack all day, but it is apparent there is some kind of connection between gossip and mental health.
