While Many Solar Roofing Options Make Big Promises, GAF Energy’s Timberline Solar™ Delivers

Modern solar roofing options are getting a lot of attention lately. In addition to rack-mounted, bolted-on solar panels, sleeker designs have emerged, like edge-to-edge glass solar tiles. These new products are making bold promises, but so far, many have failed to deliver.  Enter Timberline Solar™: a new solar roofing product from GAF Energy that’s been tested, proven, and is already powering and protecting homes across America.

Timberline Solar™ is the latest product from GAF Energy, a Standard Industries company and the sister company of GAF, North America’s largest roofing manufacturer. Since its launch in early 2022, it’s continued to expand to select markets through GAF’s vast network of regional contractors.

In order to make the jump from prototype to full-fledged roof producing energy for the home, the team at GAF Energy developed, tested and verified their solar roofing product over a three-year time period. Strategic co-location of the R&D and manufacturing teams at GAF Energy’s state-of-the-art facility in San Jose, CA, enabled rapid iteration and feedback in the product development process.

The result, Timberline Solar™, is the only roof system to directly integrate solar technology into traditional roofing materials and installation processes. It also incorporates the world’s first nailable solar shingle, the Timberline Solar™ Energy Shingle (ES), which installs as readily and easily as a traditional roofing shingle.

Timberline Solar™ is not just a shiny promise. Just ask Randy Jewell, a recent GAF Energy customer who had Timberline Solar™ installed on his home in California through local GAF Energy roofing partner RE Roofing & Construction.

“With the Timberline Solar roofing system, the solar-producing part of it is water-tight, too—it’s actually the roofing product,” said Jewell. “I like the fact that it’s not two separate pieces: they’ve been able to fuse solar and roofing together and come up with a single solution.”

This California installation is an 8.8 kW project, with expected output of more than 160,000 kW over the shingles’ lifetime. As a customer, Mr. Jewell paid a price comparable to that of a new roof plus traditional solar panels.

Mr. Jewell is just one of the many happy customers with a new Timberline Solar™ roof. And it doesn’t stop in California. To meet this product’s high demand, GAF Energy’s deployment process is underway: Timberline Solar™ is currently available through select roofers in regions across the country, with targeted expansion plans. The company’s vision is energy from every roof, after all. To learn more about Timberline Solar™, visit www.gaf.energy.
