Startup Claims First-Ever Dire Wolf De-Extinction Through DNA Editing
Ben Lamm, founder and CEO of Dallas-based biotech company Colossal Biosciences, says their new breakthrough could mark a significant milestone in de-extinction science. Dire wolves, once formidable predators of the Ice Age, disappeared more than 10,000 years ago after roaming the Americas alongside saber-toothed cats and woolly mammoths. Rather than cloning preserved DNA, Colossal has used advanced gene editing to modify the DNA of modern gray wolves, producing animals that closely mimic the physical traits and likely behaviors of their long-extinct ancestors.
Apple Flew in iPhones to the US Ahead of Trump Tariffs
Apple reportedly flew five cargo planes loaded with iPhones and other products from India and China to the United States in late March 2025, in an effort to avoid a new 10% import tariff announced by President Trump. The tariff officially took effect on April 5.
The report claims the shipments arrived over a three-day period during the final week of March, allowing Apple to build a buffer of inventory in its U.S. warehouses. This emergency stockpile could supply Apple’s domestic demand for several months, temporarily shielding the company from the higher costs associated with the new tariff.
Amazon Delays Kuiper Satellite Launch Due to Bad Weather
Amazon’s first major launch for its Kuiper internet satellite project has been delayed due to poor weather conditions over Cape Canaveral, Florida. The launch, scheduled for Wednesday night, was postponed after persistent cumulus clouds and strong winds made conditions unsafe for liftoff.
The mission, in partnership with United Launch Alliance (ULA), was set to deploy 27 tech satellites into low Earth orbit. ULA halted the countdown during its livestream, stating that weather conditions were “NO GO” for the remainder of the launch window. A new launch date has yet to be announced.
Apple Has Best Day Since 1998 After Trump Pauses Tariffs for 90 Days
Apple stock surged 15% on Wednesday following President Donald Trump’s announcement of a 90-day suspension on his administration’s proposed “reciprocal tariffs.” The rally marked Apple’s strongest single-day performance since January 1998—back when Steve Jobs was interim CEO and the iPod hadn’t yet been released.
The jump added more than $400 billion to Apple’s market value, pushing its total market cap to just under $3 trillion. The pause gives Apple temporary relief from tariffs that would have impacted its supply chain operations in countries like Vietnam, India, and Thailand.
Amazon CEO: Sellers Likely to Pass Tariff Costs on to Consumers
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said Thursday that the tech company is closely monitoring the effects of President Donald Trump’s newly announced tariffs but warned that third-party sellers may end up shifting those added costs to consumers.
In an interview with CNBC, Jassy said many sellers operate on tight margins and may have little choice but to raise prices. “You don’t have 50% extra margin to play with,” he noted. “I think they’ll try to pass the cost on.”
