Trump Tariffs Trigger Tech Stock Sell-Off

Tech stocks tumbled as part of a broader market sell-off, fueled by fears of a global trade war after Trump announced a blanket 10% tariff on all imports and additional higher duties on specific countries after the bell Wednesday. Calling the tariffs a “declaration of economic independence” for the U.S., Trump said the measures aim to reshape global trade.

Businesses and governments worldwide have already begun reacting to the sweeping policy, which includes a 34% tariff on China, on top of an existing 20% tax, a 46% duty on Vietnam, and a 20% levy on European Union imports.

China’s Ministry of Commerce urged the U.S. to “immediately cancel” the unilateral tariffs and warned of “resolute counter-measures.”

Xiaomi Hits Record EV Deliveries in March

Chinese electric vehicle makers Xiaomi, Xpeng, and Leapmotor each delivered nearly 30,000 or more cars in March—roughly double the numbers reported by several competing startups.

The surge highlights how some automakers are gaining ground, even as BYD remains the dominant market leader.

Xiaomi reported a record-breaking month, delivering over 29,000 EVs in March, surpassing its previous streak of more than 20,000 monthly deliveries over the past five months.

Amazon Makes Bid for TikTok Ahead of Ban Deadline

Amazon has submitted a bid to the White House to acquire the social media app TikTok from its Chinese tech owners, CNBC has confirmed.

The company sent its proposal in a letter this week to Vice President JD Vance and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, according to a source familiar with the matter, who requested anonymity due to the confidential nature of the discussions. However, the bid is not being taken seriously, as it was submitted just days before the deadline to prevent a U.S. ban, the source added.

Amazon Set to Launch First Kuiper Satellites on April 9

Amazon has announced the date for the much-anticipated debut launch of its Kuiper internet satellites.

The satellites are scheduled to lift off aboard United Launch Alliance’s Atlas V rocket from Cape Canaveral, Florida, on April 9 at 12 p.m. ET, according to a blog post by Amazon. The launch will be streamed live on ULA’s website.

This mission marks a crucial milestone in Amazon’s Project Kuiper, which was launched in 2019 with the goal of providing broadband internet through a network of more than 3,000 satellites. While Amazon has allocated $10 billion for the project, third-party analysts estimate the total cost to launch Kuiper could reach as high as $20 billion.

AI Chipmaker Cerebras Gets CFIUS Clearance for IPO Move

Artificial intelligence chipmaker Cerebras announced Monday that it has received approval from a U.S. committee to sell shares to Group 42, an AI company backed by Microsoft and based in the United Arab Emirates.

The clearance, granted by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), is a crucial step for Cerebras as it moves forward with plans to go public. Cerebras competes with Nvidia, whose tech graphics processing units are widely used for training and running AI models, though much of Cerebras’ revenue comes from its customer, Group 42.
