The Net Zero Conference is celebrating their 10th annual event as the largest conference hosted annually in Los Angeles dedicated to net zero energy, decarbonization, and climate resilience! Since the event’s inception, when it was created by Verdical Group as a means of educating the building community about new policies and trends in sustainability, the net zero movement has expanded across industries, and the conference’s focus has developed along with it.
In its tenth year, the event will feature groundbreaking content presented by international experts on ESG, resilience, health & wellness, sustainable materials, personal care and fashion, and food & beverage, in addition to green buildings. Plus, they’re welcoming an exciting lineup of keynote speakers, including:
- Diandra Marizet Esparza and Kiana Kazemi, co-founders of Intersectional Environmentalist, a non-profit shifting the narrative of environmental storytelling to center diversity and joy. Their address will focus on the importance of the environmental justice movement and the work they are doing to imagine a more equitable future of environmentalism.
- Panama Bartholomy, Director of the Building Decarbonization Coalition, a multi-sector forum advocating for and creating solutions for our pollution-intensive building stock, and Alexandra Nagy of Sunstone Strategies, who has spent the past 10 years working on the front lines to protect communities from the expansion of fossil fuels while advocating a just and equitable clean energy transition. The duo will speak about the impact of our reliance on natural gas and how our communities can move away from fossil fuels through activism and decarbonizing technologies.
- Wawa Gatheru, Founder and Executive Director of Black Girl Environmentalist, will speak about her work empowering Black girls, women, and non-binary people across the climate movement. In 2023 alone, BGE has been recognized in Vogue, the New York Times, NPR, Forbes, Essence, Teen Vogue, Axios, and more. Wawa has been recognized as a 776 Fellow under Alexis Ohanian, a Glamour College Woman of the Year, a Grist 50 Fixer, a Young Futurist by The Root, a Gucci Changemaker, named a Climate Creator to Watch by Pique Action and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and was featured on the January 2023 cover of Vogue alongside Billie Eilish.
The Net Zero Conference attracts professionals from around the world to educate and inspire a net zero future. Network with them at various shoulder events opening the conference on the 13th, which include a beach clean-up at the Original Muscle Beach in Santa Monica, followed by yoga on the beach with NZ23 emcee and Emmy award-winning journalist Sarah Pilla. Then, head over to a Welcome Happy Hour hosted at Truly LA in Downtown Los Angeles’s historic Arts District, where LA locals can walk over from USGBC-LA’s event to welcome out-of-towners over beers, cocktails, and light appetizers.
The annual Trailblazer Awards Gala, which celebrates transformational leaders who are making an impact in the areas of climate, carbon, equity, ESG, resilience, net zero, and more, will be hosted after the main conference on the 14th. This limited-capacity cocktail event will take place at Millwick in the Arts District.
In addition to networking events, educational sessions, and keynote speakers, the event will feature an expo floor where architects, engineers, building owners, and investors looking to discover the leading brands within the built environment.
A pool of free, need-based tickets has been reserved for disadvantaged communities, students, and others to ensure that equity and diversity are a priority in the net zero conversation. Continuing education credits (CEUs) will also be available for industry professionals.
This year’s Net Zero Conference will be hosted on September 13+14, 2023, with the main sessions to be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center on the 14th and shoulder events happening around the city on the 13th. Learn more and register at netzeroconference.com – we hope to see you there!
