During Art Basel Miami, Metaverse Fashion Week (MVFW) announced Miami Fashion Week (MIAFW) will become the first CFDA globally recognized fashion week to participate in Metaverse Fashion Week 2023, held this spring from March 28-31, 2023.
Earlier this year, The Metaverse Group built L’Atelier for MIAFW where digital experiences, runway shows, and art were displayed during Miami Fashion Week’s physical show. MIAFW plans a unique activation and runway shows on the rooftop of their L’Atelier in Decentraland’s Luxury Fashion District.
2023 will be the first year a “physically” produced fashion week will participate in Metaverse Fashion Week.
The announcement event, hosted by crypto investor and founding member of Red DAO, Megan Kaspar, in addition to both MIAFW and MVFW, took place on Friday, December 2, at The Surfclub Four Seasons.
According to Vogue Business, guests included Fashion Group International President Maryanne Grisz, DRESSX co-founders Natalia Modenova and Daria, Arianee CEO Pierre Nicolas Hurstel, Digital Twins co-founders Natalie Soto-Wright and Adrianna Soto Wright, Lukso blockchain co-founder Marjorie Hernandez and SYKY founder Alice Delahunt.
“We are beyond proud and excited to be the first physical fashion week to participate in MVFW’23 and further our initiatives around a sustainable fashion industry,” said Lourdes Fernández-Velasco, Creative Director of MIAFW.
Panel Discussions
The event, which was live streamed on Decentraland’s IG TV and in MIAFW’s L’Atelier, included three panel discussions on the foundation and future of MVFW:
Redefining Ownership & Identity was moderated by UNXD co-founder Nick Gonzalez and included TIME Magazine president Keith Grossman, founding member of Red DAO Megan Kaspar, and UNXD CEO Shashi Menon as panelists.
Luxury in Cross Metaverse Fashion Week Platforms was moderated by head of MVFW Gigi Casimiro and included panelists Andrea Abrams (founder Phygicode), Michael Toner (CMO, Threedium), Gia Valentina (CMO, Spatial), Diego Di Tommaso (co-founder, OVER), and avatar photographer/artist Nick Knight.
Future Heritage was moderated by Vogue Business’ Chief Innovation Editor Maghan McDowell, and included panelists Lourdes Fernandez-Velasco (Creative Director, MIAFW), Lorne Sugarman (CEO, Metaverse Group), Kaspar, Casimir, and Menon.
Attendees to the inaugural MVFW earlier this year, included Elie Saab, D&G, Tommy Hilfiger, Selfridges, Guo Peio, Paco Rabanne, and more, with both legacy fashion houses and digital fashion brands minting over 165,000 free wearables.
Metaverse Fashion Week 2023 Topics
MVFW’23 will focus on metaversal interoperability and digital fashion, highlighting ‘Future Heritage’ – a challenge to connect the next generation of creators and traditional fashion designers.
“Metaverse Fashion Week is a tentpole moment for digital fashion where both brands and consumers can experience the future of fashion,” said Shashi Menon, co-founder and CEO of UNXD.
“MVFW is a direct extension of UNXD’s mission to bridge luxury between the real world and the metaverse. After our successful first season with Decentraland, we’re thrilled to be expanding the MVFW platform together to encompass additional metaverses.”
DRESSX, the largest metacloset for digital clothes, provided the event with an official AR metaverse jacket that attendees could wear by scanning a QR code.
