6 Video Games to Play While Social Distancing

While the importance of social distancing cannot be understated, for some this is a nightmare (I need to go out and be social!), while for others this is a dream (finally, the perfect excuse to stay inside all of the time). Whether you’re a struggling social butterfly or looking to sequester yourself even further, here are a few video games that might be worth picking up while you’re trying to stay entertained.

The Outer Worlds (PC, Xbox One, PS4)

If you’re looking to get lost in a world that makes you remember there are worse things than being forced to stay inside, The Outer Worlds may be perfect for you. What makes this game so perfect for quarantine is how long it takes to finish. If you want to invest all your time in it, it can take as long as 30+ hours to explore every little bit of this universe, while the more efficient player could be done in about 12 hours.

In Outer Worlds, a single-player, first person RPG, you venture to the deep colonies of space and find yourself in the midst of conspiracies threatening to destroy them. With the options to build your character in every which way and interact with the world around you how you want, The Outer Worlds has the potential to keep you enthralled for weeks.

Maybe you’re looking for something a bit lighter, something easy and quick, just to get you through the day. If that’s the case, Untitled Goose Game is exactly what you are looking for. Released in 2019, Untitled Goose Game is one of the more unique games in recent years, allowing you to play as a very obnoxious goose. With puzzles and fun abounding, Untitled Goose Game is perfect for players of all ages looking to kill a few hours.

Available for download via Steam or console marketplaces.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (PC, Xbox One, PS4)

Could there be a better time to escape to a galaxy far, far away? I don’t think there is, and now is your chance! Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will have you zipping, running, jumping, and dueling across the galaxy just like a real Jedi. With plenty of worlds to explore and secrets to discover, including a few pretty tough bosses, this game will keep you occupied under quarantine for as long as you need.

Minecraft (Everything)

Perhaps you would like something a little bit more lowkey, but that still supplies a world of possibilities. Minecraft has been a fan favorite video game for years now, and for good reason. If you’ve never visited this gem, now is the perfect time. With the ability to build pretty much anything, Minecraft will not only keep you busy, but it will spark your creativity unlike many games can. Plus, with the ability to share worlds with other players, you may be able to scratch that social itch that you have.

Available for purchase or download via platform of your choice.

World of Warcraft (PC, Mac)

Speaking of social itches, if you miss interacting with people, World of Warcraft might not be a bad idea. This open-world, MMORPG allows you to interact with other players, going on raids and missions for everyone’s benefit. The game is massive with too many players to count, and the original version (often referred to as Vanilla WOW, and considered the best version) was just re-released last year, giving you the perfect opportunity to pick up this game for the first time.

Fortnite (Everything)

Finally, Fortnite is the perfect game for those who want to play with other people, but don’t want to dedicate a whole day to gaming. Allowing you to play with people from all around the world, Fortnite places players in an ever shrinking battle arena to see who will be the last to survive. The games are fast-paced and exciting, with the options to play solo or in a team. Play a few matches or play for hours, we won’t judge you either way.

Download Fortnite via console marketplace of your choice.
