This Week’s Top 5 Tech Stories We’re Following- March Week 1

Lots has happened this past week in the tech world! With a new AI phone announced, trifold smartphones gaining popularity, and more, there’s much to catch up on. So, let’s get started!

Perplexity & Deutsche Telekom Announce New AI Phone

At this year’s MWC in Barcelona, Deutsche Telekom (DT) announced plans to develop an “AI Phone” in collaboration with Perplexity, Picsart, and other partners. The low-cost smartphone will feature a new AI assistant app called “Magenta AI.”

The device is scheduled for unveiling in the second half of this year, with a launch expected in 2026, priced under $1,000. According to a spokesperson from DT, it will initially be available in the European market.

Trifold Smartphones Gain Popularity

China’s Huawei isn’t the only smartphone manufacturer introducing a third display to its devices. At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, several companies showcased their latest display technology innovations.

South Korean tech giant Samsung unveiled its new “trifold” concept devices: the Flex G and Flex S. The Flex G features three screens and folds both inwards and outwards, similar to a book. The Flex S, with its zigzag design, is intended to resemble the shape of an “S,” which is reflected in its name.

Cybercrime & Scams Skyrocket This Week

Experts are warning that the growing network of cybercrime marketplaces is making it increasingly easy for individuals to engage in fraud, creating unprecedented cybersecurity risks globally. Cybercriminals were once depicted in the media as highly skilled, rogue individuals using coding and hacking abilities from dark, isolated spaces. However, these stereotypes are becoming outdated.

Today, the barriers to entry have lowered significantly. Court explains that obtaining personal data, like email addresses, and sending mass spam messages—one of the oldest online scams—has never been easier.

Amazon’s One Medical CEO Steps Down

Trent Green, CEO of One Medical, will step down from his position at the Amazon-owned primary care provider after less than two years in the role.

Green is leaving to become CEO of National Research Corp. (NRC Health), a provider of healthcare tech analytics and services, as announced by the company in a release on Tuesday. He is set to begin his new role on June 1.

During his tenure, Green led One Medical’s expansion into new geographic markets and the opening of additional offices. The company also further integrated with Amazon, adding medical services to its Prime membership program.

Apple Launches New MacBook Air Models

Apple announced new MacBook Air models on Wednesday, featuring the company’s latest M4 chip and an upgraded videoconferencing camera.

Despite the tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump on Tuesday, which experts suggest could increase the price of electronics, Apple reduced the price of the MacBook Air by $100 in the U.S.

The 13-inch MacBook Air starts at $999, while the larger 15-inch model begins at $1,099. Customers can opt for additional memory and tech storage upgrades for an increased cost.
