Macron Aims to Bring Advanced Chipmaking Back to France

At the 2025 VivaTech conference in Paris, French President Emmanuel Macron shared his vision for France to re-emerge as a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing. Speaking alongside Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Mistral AI CEO Arthur Mensch, Macron said he wants the country to produce chips at the cutting edge, ranging from 2 to 10 nanometers in size. The announcement followed Huang’s revelation that Nvidia’s first-ever GPU was manufactured in France by SGS Thomson Microelectronics, now known as STMicroelectronics.

Disney and Universal have filed a joint lawsuit against AI image generator Midjourney, accusing the tech company of widespread copyright infringement. The landmark case is the first of its kind brought by major Hollywood studios targeting generative AI. The suit alleges that Midjourney created and distributed unauthorized AI-generated depictions of iconic characters from franchises such as Star Wars, The Simpsons, Shrek, Cars, Toy Story, The Avengers, and Despicable Me.

According to the complaint, both studios had previously sent cease-and-desist letters to Midjourney’s legal team, urging the company to halt the unauthorized use of their intellectual property. Despite these warnings, Midjourney allegedly continued to release updated versions of its AI model that could generate similar content.

The Pittsburgh-based startup, founded by Jake Loosararian in 2013, has now achieved unicorn status. Its innovative robots—capable of climbing, flying, and swimming—are designed to assess the condition of essential assets like ships, aircraft, pipelines, and industrial plants.
