Switch 2 Launch Sparks Global Frenzy

Nintendo’s highly anticipated Switch 2 officially hit store shelves today, triggering massive fan excitement, long lines, and early sellouts in several markets. The Japanese gaming powerhouse is betting on the new console to continue the momentum from its predecessor, the original Switch, which sold over 152 million units and fueled a nearly fivefold surge in Nintendo’s stock since 2017.

Analysts say initial demand is already off the charts. Omdia’s George Jijiashvili called it “the biggest console launch of all time,” noting fans are scrambling to secure the device. With its hybrid portable design that revolutionized console gaming, the Switch legacy continues to captivate gamers worldwide.

Amazon Builds Agentic AI Taskforce

Amazon has launched a new group within its consumer product division focused on developing agentic AI — a next-gen form of artificial intelligence capable of executing complex, multistep tasks. The initiative will be housed at Lab126, the secretive R&D lab behind iconic devices like the Kindle and Echo.

Unlike traditional chatbots, agentic AI can perform actions autonomously, making it ideal for robotics. Amazon says the team will create a framework for “physical AI,” enabling warehouse robots to respond to natural language commands and act as versatile assistants.

Reddit Sues Anthropic Over Data Use

Reddit has filed a lawsuit against AI startup Anthropic, accusing it of illegally scraping and using Reddit user data to train its AI models without permission. Filed Wednesday in San Francisco, the suit alleges Anthropic’s actions violated Reddit’s terms and harmed the tech company by exploiting its content for commercial gain.

Reddit sharply criticized Anthropic in the complaint, calling the startup a so-called “white knight” of AI that disregards user rights and platform rules. Anthropic has denied the allegations and said it will “defend itself vigorously.” The news drove Reddit’s stock up more than 6% by market close.

Tariff Jitters Hit Apple, Samsung Forecasts

Counterpoint Research has sharply cut its 2025 smartphone shipment forecasts for Apple and Samsung, citing uncertainty over U.S. tariff policy. The firm lowered its global tech shipment growth projection to 1.9% from 4.2%, warning that renewed concerns about potential tariffs are weighing on market expectations.

Although smartphones were ultimately exempted from President Trump’s “reciprocal tariffs” announced in April, the looming trade uncertainty has already impacted projections. Apple’s shipments are now expected to rise just 2.5%—down from 4%—while Samsung is forecast to see flat growth, a drop from the previously estimated 1.7% increase.

Venmo Evolves Into Shopping Powerhouse

Venmo is making a bold move beyond splitting bills and sending cash to friends. The PayPal-owned app unveiled major updates aimed at turning it into a full-service fintech platform for everyday consumer spending. These include enhanced rewards for Venmo Debit Mastercard users, new checkout options at major retailers, and a fresh brand campaign to reframe Venmo as a commerce-first platform.
