How Luvmyhike is Helping Hikers Prep for Their Next Adventure

Deciding to participate in an outdoor adventure can be intimidating. Will I have the endurance? Have I trained enough? Am I mentally prepared? But these concerns should never take precedence over the adventure — it’s supposed to be fun, right? So how does one go about preparing for a trek without feeling overwhelmed by guesswork or the often solitary task of endurance training? That’s how the new app, Luvmyhike, could be an incredible tool for helping adventurers stick to their goals and approach their next challenge with confidence.

What Does It Do?

Luvmyhike is designed to act as a fitness coach for upcoming adventures. It allows users to choose their fitness level – newbie, moderate, or hardcore – and the specialty most befitting their next adventure – endurance, altitude, or full pack. The app tracks the user’s progress and offers suggestions on how to improve. After completing the 12-week training course, the user is automatically bumped up to the next level and may choose a different focus.

Users set their fitness level and the app provides four weekly workouts to match their skill level. The weekly workouts start with a fitness test, followed by high-intensity interval training, trek training, and finally endurance training. Every workout is accompanied by a video demonstration and a timer to assess the user’s improvement over time. After concluding each of the four weekly workouts, Luvmyhike assesses the user’s fitness level and tailors the remaining exercises accordingly.

Can I Trust It?

Australia-based organization Wild Women On Top created the app to accompany their mission of empowering women through physical and mental endurance training to live more adventurous lives. Founder and CEO Di Westaway is an adventure coach who has helped more than 25,000 people to challenge themselves with hiking and wilderness adventures. She also holds the world record for highest handstand, performed atop Mt. Ama Dablam in Nepal. Westaway and her team designed the app based on years of coaching and trekking experience, giving extra credence to their recommendations.

How Much Does It Cost?

The first week is free and each subsequent week costs around six dollars. A subscription also includes access to the global Luvmyhike community, expert advice on gear, inspirational adventure stories, and several other tools to improve the user’s mental toughness, agility, mobility, and endurance. It is currently available for iOS and Android devices.
